Nothing hurts more than the pain of not given the chance to say goodbye... UDD encapsulates such a journey of emotions around a sensitive topic with Crying Season---a tear-jerker of a track, one of my favorite song from their self-titled album. For context, below is an excerpt from Armi Millare's Facebook page posted on October 21, 2019, explaining the message behind the song. "I know it is midday, totally out of the blue but someone had asked about what Crying Season is all about. It was written for our fallen comrade, the band’s best friend-Sherwin De Guzman, and two other friends who had succumbed to their struggle with mental health. It has been difficult to grasp none of them are here to talk to us about it, but maybe let me try from my end of the spectrum." As someone who had a similar experience, I'll try to break down the lyrics based on my own understanding and from my perspective. Verse 1 Is this the end or beginning? The song starts with a question: Is thi...
image: last.fm.com I have so many emo times, these are moments of solitude and alone time. Whenever I feel the longing to be alone and lonely I listen to songs that would exude the kind of emotion I want at that particular moment (specifically loneliness and exclusion). Talking about emotional songs, I stumbled upon one by Up Dharma Down. After listening to their latest album “Capacities” I was caught up by one of the songs from the album. Feelings is by far the most creative and emotional English song I’ve heard from UDD. I mean Oo, Tadhana and Indak are my favorite Filipino UDD songs but a song written in English which elicits the same emotions brought by the previous tracks is something, right? The song is well-crafted, with lyrics so poetically poignant you’ll end up pressing the REPEAT button (which I did for so many times). image: kristn.com If the lyrics are already good enough, wait until you’re captivated by Armi’s soothing voice. Her voice has that commandin...
This happened when I was in Puerto Princesa (not that you need to know about that but it is important that you know where I was at that time). We were on a vacation with 4 of my college friends. While chilling in our room I logged in on my BPI Express Online account to check if a particular transaction happened (note that this was payday so you get the idea right?). I logged in using my old Sony Ericsson phone which was a hand-me-down from my sister. Yeah, it’s old. I filled in my username and password (which was incorrect). The page loaded my request. But because of – I don’t know – my phone or the internet connection I decided to click the login button more than once just to make sure I did what I was supposed to do. Unfortunately, the BPI online app received the transaction but my phone (or the internet) was so slow to even notify me with my failed login attempt. I remember clicking the login button one-to-many times out of annoyance. I need to chec...
