What it means to be a follower of Christ (Mark 8:24)

Below is a devotion I made on
October 14, 2013 with scriptures from Mark 7:31 – 9:29. I just want to share my
thoughts and feelings after reading the whole passage. I have also decided to
post it on my blog and start a series of “Devotion” entries to encourage others
to read the bible more often and reflect on it daily.
Mark 8: 34
Then Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me.”
What does it mean to be a follower of
Christ?
We must be selfless. We must not
think highly of ourselves and think of what we can do to make others know of
God’s goodness in their lives; that through us they will be blessed and believe
that God loves them more than what they believe. And through us they may feel
the unconditional love of God which only comes from HIM.
We must be willing to carry the “cross”
that is given to us. What is this cross?
I believe this cross signifies
the great commission that God has set for us to fulfill. We being sons and
daughters of the Lord must spread the good news of salvation to everyone and by also preaching this good news without ceasing –that is probably how we can carry the
cross and be true followers of Christ.
Let HIS goodness and love be felt by everyone through us! :)
