Most anticipated films of 2014

As the days inch closer to the premiere dates of our anticipated movies for the last quarter of the year, I’ve made a list of the films which will soon hit the big screen next year and will send movie freaks lining up on movie houses eager to be the first to watch and spoil features themselves. Here is the list of movies to watch for on 2014.

JANUARY | Lone Survivor (January 10)  

 Action | Drama | Thriller 

 With a number of horror flicks premiering on January, starting the year with these movies might not be a good idea. But this movie which is based on real events might be worth taking your time. 
Lone Survivor
The Story | Based on the failed mission "Operation Red Wings" which tasked four members of SEAL Team 10 on June 28, 2005 to kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. They were quickly compromised and under attack, Marcus Luttrell being the only member to survive and evade capture (IMDb).

FEBRUARY | Robocop (February 7)

The Story

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. FEBRUARY | Pompeii (February 21)

The Story | Set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, a slave on a ship heading for Naples works to get home to save the woman he loves and his best friend, a gladiator trapped inside the city's coliseum (IMDb).

The movie stars Emily Browning, Kit Harrington (John Snow of Game of Thrones), Paz Vega, Kiefer Sutherland, and more.

If you've already seen documentaries about Pompeii then definitely you already have an idea as to how the story would end (you know what I mean). 

MARCH | 300: Rise of An Empire (March 7)  

 Action | Drama | War

The Story | After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land (IMDb).

 The movie stars Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, and Eva Green.

APRIL | Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4)

 The Story

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. MAY | X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23)

The Story | The story is partially set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant robots called Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed. In the present day, the X-Men were forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring (movieinsider).

 The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, etc.

JUNE | How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 20)  

 Action | Adventure | Animation


The Story | It's been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout(IMDb).
 The animation film stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Kristen Wiig and America Ferrera.

JUNE | Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 27)  

 Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

The Story
As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. JULY | Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 18)  

 Action | Drama | Sci-Fi

AUGUST | Fifty Shades of Grey (August 1)  

 Romance | Drama 

Fifty Shades of Grey lead actors. (

The Story | Follows Anastasia "Ana" Steele, a 21 year old college senior who attends Washington State University Vancouver in Washington. In place of her friend Kate, Ana interviews 27-year-old Christian Grey, a successful and wealthy young entrepreneur. From this meeting on, Christian engages with Ana in a new type of relationship - BDSM (IMDb).
 The film adaptation of the book stars Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson.

AUGUST | The Expendables 3 (August 15)  

 Action | Adventure | Thriller

The Story | Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. SEPTEMBER | Resident Evil 6 (September 12)  

 Action | Horror | Sci-Fi
The Story | Alice, Jill, Claire, Chris, Leon, Ada, and Wesker rush to The Hive, where The Red Queen plots total destruction over the human race (movieinsider).
RE 6 movie stars Milla Jovovich.

OCTOBER | Dracula Untold (October 3)  

 Action | Drama | Fantasy

The Story | Vampire mythology combined with the true history of Prince Vlad tell the origin of Dracula (IMDb).
Dracula Untold stars Luke Evans, Samantha Barks, Dominic Cooper.


OCTOBER | Paranormal Activity 5 (October 24)  



NOVEMBER | The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (November 21)

DECEMBER | Into The Woods (December 25)

The Story | A witch conspires to teach important lessons to various characters of popular children's stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel (IMDb).
The movie stars Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, and Johnny Depp.

LSS: Feelings (Up Dharma Down)

I have so many emo times, these are moments of solitude and alone time. Whenever I feel the longing to be alone and lonely I listen to songs that would exude the kind of emotion I want at that particular moment (specifically loneliness and exclusion). Talking about emotional songs, I stumbled upon one by Up Dharma Down. After listening to their latest album “Capacities” I was caught up by one of the songs from the album. Feelings is by far the most creative and emotional English song I’ve heard from UDD. I mean Oo, Tadhana and Indak are my favorite Filipino UDD songs but a song written in English which elicits the same emotions brought by the previous tracks is something, right? The song is well-crafted, with lyrics so poetically poignant you’ll end up pressing the REPEAT button (which I did for so many times).

If the lyrics are already good enough, wait until you’re captivated by Armi’s soothing voice. Her voice has that commanding presence which you can listen to all day for the rest…

Remember your favorite ball pen back in your high school days? Be it panda, uni, hbw, the high-priced pilot or even the scented ones; we were once attached to these writing materials. 
There were times when the unexpected happens - your two-day old pilot ball pen fell from your arm chair and when you tested it your penmanship was already broken. It's devastating to say the least; 2 days seemed too short. Then, you told yourself to move on, find another ball pen that is cheaper but will last you a quarter or so.
