The Happiness Project: Secrets of Adulthood

Image
I started reading this book given to me by my unbiological “mom” entitled The Happiness Project written by Gretchen Rubin. As I began reading it I can’t help myself from pausing (many times) after a line or two to process what I’ve just read.
There were just so many ideas jumping out of the pages of the book that I believe will help everyone I know on how to attain true happiness in life.
Below is an excerpt from the book:
“I also came up with a goofier list: my Secret of Adulthood. These were the lessons I’d learned with some difficulty as I’d grown up.”
Secrets of Adulthood People don’t notice your mistakes as much as you think. It’s okay to ask for help. Most decision don’t require extensive research.Do good, feel good. It’s important to be nice to everyone.Bring a sweater.By doing a little bit each day, you can get a lot accomplished.Soap and water remove most stains.Turning the computer on or off a few times often fixes the glitch. If you can’t find something, clean up.You can choose wha…

So many books to read, so little time.

Hi everyone! 2013 is about to end and 2014 is just around the corner. Have you finished the challenges you've set this year specifically the books in your "to-read" list?
Sadly, I was not able to finish three of the books in my own list due to some circumstance. One advice: If you want something done, you must commit to it with all of your heart, soul, body, money, time, and effort combine. :)

Here is the line-up of books I’ve been wanting to read but cannot because I’m too busy these past few days. I hope I can include these reads on my 100-books-to-read challenge this coming year.

The Shack by WM. Paul Young

I borrowed this book from my Pastor and I've already read a few chapters of it already. I want to read The Shack because it has been years since I finished an inspirational and spiritual book. I hope this book goes to your "to-read" list because it's a book about reestablishing your faith to God. And I believe we can relate to the story in so many wa…

13 Quotable Quotes of 2013

Image
Source: www.gmanetwork.com
“You don't do that to me. Saan po kayo kumukuha ng kapal ng mukha? I can buy you, your friends, and this club."

Compressed into a single line of dialogue, three of our choices for quotes of the year can comprise a classic catty put-down in a movie.

Maybe it's because the three different individuals who uttered them – a show host, the President, an actress – were all in apparent fits of pique, for totally different reasons.

Irritation is a common emotion behind some of our quotable quotes of 2013. Others were just clinical but telling declarations of fact, such as Erap's sobering reminder to the public that he is the first ex-convict to become mayor of Manila.

The news media used to be the main arbiter for the quotes that capture the spirit of our times, but no longer in the age of social media. Many of these quotes first found traction on Twitter and Facebook, which put a premium on short bursts of text that can be instantly shared. YouTube enabl…

Books for Less (December 23)

Image
Hi there Book Lovers it has been a while since my last “Book for Less” entry. But the long wait is over as I am back again with 2 more titles to add to my growing list of cheap finds.

For today I am adding a special book I have been wanting to find for so long. It took me 2 months to finally locate the book at Book Sale. It was such a relief finding it sitting comfortably near the store’s counter because I have been on a look-out for the book (for ages) after watching its film adaptation.
Introducing, Ian McEwan’s National Bestselling book Atonement.

Ian McEwan’s symphonic novel of love and war, childhood and class, guilt and forgiveness provides all the satisfaction of a brilliant narrative and the provocation we have come to expect from this master of English prose. On a hot summer day in 1934, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis witnesses a moment’s flirtation between her older sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner, the son of a servant and Cecilia’s childhood friend. But Briony’s incomplete…

The Wise Will Always Seek the Lord

Image
I’ve been inspired by our youth pastor and my cell group leader after our thanksgiving party on December 15, 2013. And this blog post is the fruit of that inspiration.
Every Christmas we are often reminded of the nativity story. It is the story of the baby Jesus on that cold night in a manger, the representation and the real reason behind our celebration of Christmas.
How well do I remember the nativity story? Just a bit. I only know that because Joseph couldn’t find a fitting inn for Mary, they ended up in a crude stable where Mary gave birth to Jesus.
Jesus was visited by shepherds and three wise men who followed the star leading them to the stable where the holy family is.
The three wise men brought gifts for the infant. They worshipped and give thanks to him.
With this our pastor stressed out what the wise men did, they went looking for Jesus and found him saying, “The wise will always seek the Lord”.
Let us not forget that the real meaning of Christmas is the birth of our Lord Jesus Ch…

A heartwarming review of Frozen

Image
It’s been a while since I flock to a nearby movie house and watched an animated film. Most of the time I would just wait for a copy of the movie and watch it. I have been a snob to beloved film animations such as Despicable Me 2, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Monsters University, etc. Until now I haven’t had any clue as to how wonderful these films are and how many young and young at heart alike are gravitated by the unavoidable pull of these lighthearted and motivational motion pictures.
Fortunately, my fairy god mother (you know who you are!) gave me free tickets to watch Frozen with her and an officemate of mine one Saturday morning. After watching the film my happiness level of 23 shot up to a whopping 99999. The kid in me was overly satisfied that even the thought of watching it again thrilled my entrails and whatnot.
To be honest, I’ve already watched Frozen before FGM gave me free tickets. I so wanted to watch it. Luckily, an officemate of mine made it possible to provide…

LSS: Double Rainbow (Katy Perry)

Image
I fell in love instantly with this lovely track.
The song is a compilation of girl pick-up lines which I think dudes will dig.
Comparing someone to a double rainbow is magical –a poetic way of expressing one’s adoration to your significant other. I believe Katy Perry’s inspiration behind the song is John Meyer. You can feel the love and everything that goes with it oozing from the whimsical lyrics plus the unique yet simple blending of melodies creating an LSS-worthy ode of love.

I’ve read from an online source that the line, “They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” means Katy was Russell Brand’s trash and now she is John Mayer’s treasure. But whatever interpretations others have of the song it still is a perfect expression of love and admiration to your other half.

The importance of your CELL GROUP and a simple devotion from Hebrews 1:1 – 4:13

Image
Hebrews 1:1 – 4:13
Jesus has to become human in order for him to feel the way we feel. Like every human, He also was tempted but He was able to resist it. It clearly shows that we can also resist temptations. Not only can we fight worldly urges, we can also be Christ-like –imitators of Jesus. Like Jesus we can be forgivers of people who have done us wrong, doers of good, lovers of the word of God and most especially, fishers of men.
Hebrews 3:12-13
So brothers and sisters, be careful that none of you has the evil thoughts that cause so much doubt that you stop following the living God. But encourage each other everyday, while you still have something called “today”. Help each other so that none of you will be fooled by sin and become too hard to change.
This passage shows the importance of our “CELL GROUPS”. By being with your cell group you are encouraged and inspired to grow deeper in your relationship with the Lord. And whenever you’re in doubt of your …

What it means to be a follower of Christ (Mark 8:24)

Image
Below is a devotion I made on October 14, 2013 with scriptures from Mark 7:31 – 9:29. I just want to share my thoughts and feelings after reading the whole passage. I have also decided to post it on my blog and start a series of “Devotion” entries to encourage others to read the bible more often and reflect on it daily.
Mark 8: 34
Then Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me.”
What does it mean to be a follower of Christ?
We must be selfless. We must not think highly of ourselves and think of what we can do to make others know of God’s goodness in their lives; that through us they will be blessed and believe that God loves them more than what they believe. And through us they may feel the unconditional love of God which only comes from HIM.
We must be willing to carry the “cross” that is given to us. What …

My Christmas Wishlist

Image
Christmas is just around the corner, you can feel it thick in the air. The nights are becoming longer and morning baths are slightly becoming unbearable. As a child back then I would automatically know that Christmas day is near when Christmas songs are being played on the radio, when the night is filled with that crisp and cool breeze which will make you cringe, when every house is designed with colorful lanterns and lights, and when everyone has that generosity you can only feel on the month of December. And because Christmas is appropriately 12 days from now I came up with the list of things I wish to receive this Yuletide season. Here is my wish list:

1. Starbucks Planner and Tumbler

I have a randomly cluttered mind which explains the title of my blog. And having a planner would be of great help to me. To be honest, I have never owned or purchased any Starbucks planner to date. I just feel indifferent to the whole idea of drowning myself to fattening frap concoctions or splurging my…
